Head of Research at Lancashire Teaching Hospital

Paul’s substantive role is as Deputy Director of R&I at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals where aside from 5 themed teams (Cancer, Chronic Conditions, Acute, Neurology/Stroke and Women’s and Children’s), he oversees the NIHR Lancashire CRF.

With trust colleagues he helps to lead on the Trust’s innovation agenda and is working with the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) to bring investment into the north.
He represents Lancashire and South Cumbria secondary care providers in the ICS for research and sits on the NHSA Council. He was previously Deputy Director/Operations Manager at NIHR/WT Manchester CRF for 14 years and has been in management for 27 years.

He has been Director of the UKCRF Network since the inception of the new quinquennium in 2023, was previous interim director, and prior to that led Theme 2 (now work package 2), focussed on collaboration between CRFs and Industry. He has been on the UKCRFN SMT for 14 years, initially to represent non-clinical CRF Managers.
