Since its launch in 2013 the UKCRF Network’s Emergency Scenario Training Guidance has been widely used by Clinical Research Facilities (CRF) as a practical tool to deliver emergency scenario training in a research environment.
This year the Education and Nursing Theme Groups have reviewed the document and updated the following;
- added additional adult and paediatric scenarios
- checked accuracy of existing scenarios
- updated the templates to reduce repetition
Amendments have been made to existing paediatric scenarios including changing the scenario for ‘febrile convulsion secondary to otitis media’ to a general seizure, adding a scenario for ‘status epilepticus in an Infant and transfer to PICU’ and the addition of ‘hypoglycaemia in a known diabetic’.
Additional adult scenarios have been developed including a scenario for ‘major haemorrhage’ and for ‘cytokine release syndrome with ITU transfer’, as requested by attendees at the 2018 Annual Conference.
Paediatric and Adult facilities will find these additions useful and the document can be used to support practical learning across CRFs for the safety of research participants.
Scenarios included in the document
